Bound Studio
Started

The idea for Bound Studio was born in September 2023 and quickly came to life, with everything falling into place as if it was meant to be. Matt was performing a suspension at an event in Philly when he drew an unexpected crowd, with people eagerly saying, "Me next!" and asking if he could teach them. That moment sparked the realization that there was a real desire for more accessible, in-person Shibari education.

On the way home, Matt and his wife, Tara, began discussing the idea of opening their own studio, with a vision to make Shibari available to anyone who wanted to learn. While online resources are limited and often gated, and video or text-based learning isn’t for everyone, they discovered a large community of people who wanted to learn but didn’t know where to start. Many local Shibari groups and teachers are tied to BDSM venues, dungeons, or private spaces, which can feel intimidating. So, they set out to cut the cord from the kink community and create a welcoming, educational space oriented specifically for beginners, focused solely on the art of Shibari.

After conducting market research and planning the business, they leased the studio, began construction, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Meet The Owner

Matt, also known as Mr. Somerset, has been an active Dom for over 5 years, integrating his D/s lifestyle into his daily pursuit of excellence and discipline. His dedication to self-mastery and personal improvement extends to all aspects of his life, serving as a role model for those around him. Matt's journey with rope began in 2018, evolving into a passion as he delved into floor tying and suspension techniques, honing his skills through rigorous study and hands-on practice. During Covid, he further expanded his practical knowledge, experimenting with suspension in his basement while prioritizing safety and understanding. Matt's commitment to rope artistry is grounded in thorough understanding and respect for the craft.

Born and raised in California, Matt moved to Lancaster in 2014 to accept a job. Once here, he found that he loved the people, seasons and experiences and decided to grow some roots and marry a born and raised Pennsylvanian. By day, Matt is an IT Manager of a large healthcare organization, being in the IT industry for nearly 20 years. By night, he runs and operates Bound Studio as well as a car rental business. As a technical manager, Matt has significant experience teaching complex subjects and has found a very natrual transition into teaching Shibari.

Matt is a Father, Husband, Rigger, Entrepeneur, Dom, Musician, Photographer and a terrible Golfer.
