Foundations of Shibari & Kinbaku

Dive into the world of Shibari and Kinbaku with our comprehensive workshop designed for beginners and those looking to refine their technique. This session offers an immersive introduction to the Japanese approach to rope bondage, blending history with practical skills. This is an excellent workshop for those who are interested in learning an additional style and different approach to Shibari from a skilled guest instructor.

The workshop includes:

  • Historical Overview: Gain insights from Kinbakuartistmiki on the rich history and cultural context of Shibari and Kinbaku, complemented by their expert feedback and perspective.

  • Rope Handling Techniques: Learn essential skills for handling and manipulating rope with precision.

  • Bundling Techniques: Master the art of bundling rope effectively.

  • Basic Ties: Practice fundamental ties such as wrist cuffs (Single Column) and Takate Kote.

Please bring at least three hanks of rope, each 8 to 10 meters in length. Alternatively, ropes are available for purchase from Kinbakuartistmiki or Bound Studio.

  • Tuition is $49 per person.

    Please pay for your workshop partner at checkout and include their email information so that they may sign the waiver electronically.

  • All students will require the following rope kit (available for purchase or rent at the studio)

    (1) 30ft or 40ft Rope.
    (1) 10ft or 15ft Rope
    (1) Safety Shears

    6mm hemp or jute rope is recommended, please avoid cotton or other softer fibers.

    We sell Twisted Monk rope at the studio

  • Students should dress in comfortable clothing appropriate for a classroom environment. Stretchy clothing such as Yoga, athleisure or gym attire are your best option. Jeans are not recommended.

    Bunnies (person being tied) should consider wearing shorts and a tank of some sort as rope does work best skin to rope.

  • We have everything you will need available at the studio, including water and tatami mats. Feel free to bring your own water bottles, but please no open containers on the studio floor.

    Should you desire some additional comfort, please feel free bringing a yoga mat, pillow, blanket or hoodie.

  • This is a partnered workshop, however we can usually accomodate new riggers by partnering them with a person for a workshop.

    All we ask is that you pay for their workshop ticket at the time of checkout, and then send us a text or email requesting a partner.
